Independent Power Systems, Inc. (IPS) has the solution!
To ensure that your critical appliances will continue to function in the event of a grid failure, we offer state of the art battery back-up systems. The back-up battery bank is charged with solar, wind or grid power. During normal operation the system works much like a standard grid-tie system in which the energy produced by the solar or wind system is net metered, and offsets energy usage in the home. In the event of a power outage, critical loads are powered from the battery bank and the source energy of the solar or wind. A gas powered generator can also be added to supply power for extended periods of time.
Your system specifications will depend on what critical loads you want to run during a blackout. IPS engineers and electricians will work closely with the homeowner to determine the loads that should be backed up and design and install the integrated wiring.
The significant difference between the back-up system and a standard utility-connected system without batteries is the added self-sufficiency. A battery back-up system adds stability to the daily comforts of your home with the use of clean renewable energy.
