BREWS 100% POWERED BY THE SUN
In 2018, Denver Beer Co. announced the launch of a company-wide sustainability plan aimed at reducing the popular brewery’s carbon footprint and waste. Featured in this plan was the installation of a 258.3 kilowatt (kW) solar power system on the roof of their Canworks Canning facility in Denver, Colorado to offset 100% of the facility’s energy consumption. Denver Beer Co. partnered with the Boulder-based solar company Independent Power to install the system which is expected to produce 405,403 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy annually.
“The new solar array from IPS is amazing. Using only 100-percent clean solar power, we will be able to produce 4 million cans of beer each year,” said Denver Beer Co. co-founder Charlie Berger. “That’s the equivalent to the utility NOT burning 330,096 pounds of coal per year. Clean energy is the future and we are proud to be a part of the movement.”
The Canworks’ solar system consists of 738 SunPower Performance Series 350 watt commercial panels and 8 SMA Sunny Tripower STP 30,000 TL-US Inverters.
Denver Beer Co. was also recently featured as a competitor in the 2019 Brews from the Sun competition organized by Solar United Neighbors, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to representing the needs and interest of solar owners and supporters across the U.S.
“At Denver Beer Co., we believe in the importance of environmental stewardship,” stated co-founder Patrick Crawford. “We have one planet and we believe it is our corporate and social responsibility to help conserve and protect our resources. Each year we examine our energy and utility usage, materials, ingredient sourcing, waste, and overall community and environmental impact to make sure we are operating Denver Beer Co. in the most sustainable, responsible way possible.”
